The Memorial Project

Rolls of Honour and Westminster Memorial

There are two other elements of the Armed Forces Memorial Project that will be sited in London:

A memorial in Westminster Abbey will commemorate all those who have died in conflicts throughout the world since the Second World War. The Trustees are working with the Dean of Westminster and the artist Tom Phillips CBE RA to agree the design of a colourful memorial that will create a powerful and thought-provoking statement within the South Cloister.

Rolls of Honour, similar to those for the Royal Air Force held in the Church of St Clement Danes, will be kept in the Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields for the Royal Navy and in the Chapel of the Royal Hospital Chelsea for the Army. These will list the names of all those who have died in Service since the end of the Second World War regardless of the cause of death. They will be hand written on vellum in the traditional way. A team of calligraphers led by David Allan FSA Scot, who is a calligrapher and heraldic artist, will transcribe the names in chronological order and the books will be bound by James and Stuart Brockman Ltd who are leaders in this specialist field.
